I understand from a European operator that 5.403.5 is also a problem in Europe because most countries have only five channels and they have always been for SHORT QSO’s. We all have heard those long winded qso’s that last for 30 minutes. A few weeks ago I had a sked with a LA station. The freq was busy and I asked the two guys if I could make a scheduled call. They said sure, I made my contact and thanked them for standing by. They were happy I made my contact. This is the way it should work. Let’s pass the word to other ops who may not receive this newsletter to please make short QSO’s.

Along this line, in 2015 there will be a push to give all countries the whole 60m band. Then it would be like any other band. Let’s hope this goes through.





Ascension Island: Werner DJ9KH / ZD8D reported he worked about 100 stations in his two nights on the band. He had hoped to work more but had a high QRN level.

Unfortunately he had no internet-access at the station, so he announced the planned activity in QSOs in the afternoons on 10, 12 and 15m. I would like to thank Werner for all his time and efforts in getting on the band. Let’s hope he’ll do it again on his next trip.





Most countries have common freq with the <st1:country-region w:st="on">USA on channel 4 & 5. Some countries such as Spain do not. I think a lot of operators don't realize that. The best thing for the Spanish operators and those other countries who are not common to the <st1:country-region w:st="on">USA freq’s should post yourself on the packet cluster, to let us know that you are calling. Also go on 60 Meter DX Logger! If you haven't used or seen this page, its been around a long time. Half way down the page is a box to post your message like

"EA8CN calling on 5382" EA8CN. After each posting, put your call so we know who sent the message. PLEASE send a test message so you know how this all works. It’s not a problem to us as we want you to be familiar with it. It’s a great Dxing tool on this band.

Macedonia: I received word that Z3 Macedonia has granted at lease 16 station permission to start operating 60 meters on May 1st.

RSM (Radio Society of Macedonia) requested permission for a group of 16 dedicated radio amateurs with good experience, although the permission is given to RSM as organization - not to individuals. As I understand, RSM is given discretion to modify the list so this list may be extended.

Sable Island: a New ONE: As part of Canada 60m permission we are hopeful that Aaron VA1AXC, the new island manager, will be on the air soon. Gary K4AVC made, tested and shipped an inverted vee to Aaron who will be back on island in a few weeks. I have been working on this for some time along with Murray WA4DAN, Gary VE1RGB and Gary K4AVC. I’ll keep you posted as time goes on.

Western Sahara: NEW COUNTRY



It was reported by Arseli EA2JG that Naama SØ1A will operate on 60m on 5403.5 khz in April. Naama has the licence to operate on this band and looking for states in the next few weeks.

Sorry to say I don’t have a lot to report as I had been busy at the Dayton Hamfest weekend and at the SWODXA DX Dinner as I was the door prize chairman. A

week later I had two heart stents put in and had to take it easy for two weeks. I am now back to 100 %. As you know, not a lot going on the 60m band with the

higher summer time QRN level. As always I’ll report any new news.

FS/K9EL: John reports he’ll be operating as FS/K9EL June 9-27. I plan to be active on 6 through

As you can see we are starting fall with some good activity







Western Sahara:



EA2JG Arseli has informed me:



S01WS not available with a antenna beam. Working with a dipole on 5 Mhz.

You can not direct the antenna. At end of the month of October,EA2CNU, Robert travelled to

Western Sahara to assemble a 10 element (10 to 20ft) antenna and a beam of 5 elements 50 MHzNow they cannot do more. I am sorry.

They are very happy working <st1:country-region w:st="on">USA and hope to do so when they install the new antenna.

У меня есть NoV для работы на 60 м, вот только антенны нет...

У меня там работают слоперы 160+80м 1/4 с тюнером.
Диапазон чистый, даже вояки в АМ не мешают.
Был бы ход.
Ваших тут слышно ежедневно и громко.

Да, добавлю еще вот тут, чтобы не потерялось.
На 5357 кгц часто активна американская сеть любителей работать на этом диапазоне JT9/JT65.
Часто слышу как LZ1FG их пытается вызывать. Его тут громко "слышно".

В WSPR постоянная активность, подтянулась Скандинавия, Израиль, Австралия.
Постоянно работают на передачу станции Юж Африки.

Соломоновы острова:
Bernard DL2GAC будет на острове с 30 января по 30 февраля. Разрешение на работу в диапазоне 60м получено. Позывной H44MS.


Диего Гарсия:
N7XR, Bob, возвращается на Диего Гарсия (AF-006), о-ва Чагос. Его прибытие ожидается в чтв, 15 января, активность планируется до раннего утра в среду, 28 января. VQ9XR планирует активность включая активность на диапазоне 5 MHz on CW по возможности. QSL через OQSL в ClubLog.

Остров Асунсьон:
Операторами ZD8D будут Werner/DJ9KH, Axel/DK9BDN и Christian/DL6KAC.

Планируется использовать 100Вт и полноразмерный вертикал 1/4.
